Claude Clue #25 - Tips for working with AI
Christopher's Claude Clues #25

Anthropic quietly adjusted peak-hour usage on its monthly plans back in March, and it's worth knowing how it shakes out so you can stretch your daily allotment. Weekdays from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. PT (8 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET for us East Coast folks), you burn through your 5-hour session faster. Outside that window, and all weekend, you get noticeably more room. Your weekly total is unchanged. The only shift is when you spend it.

I've started moving the heavy lifting (long coding sessions, deep research, anything with lots of back-and-forth) to afternoons and evenings, and mornings are for planning what the AI will tackle later. If you find yourself mid-task watching your limits shrink, /clear and /compact will trim the context window and keep you running. Clue #18 covers when to reach for which one. None of this is about gaming the system; it's just working with the grain instead of against it.

Smaller requests typically consume fewer tokens than longer requests. Keeping requests short between /clear operations keeps the context shorter, usually.

One caveat: API usage is unaffected. This only touches the subscription plans (Free, Pro, Max, Team).

Written when the meter was kinder.
